Leigh Patrick leads our Ground School with one clear mission: to help every student succeed.

With years of experience, expert knowledge, and a genuine passion for teaching, Leigh provides the guidance, support, and confidence you need to pass your exams. Your success is his priority, and he'll be with you every step of the way.

As part of the PPL(H) course, you will need to pass nine multiple-choice examinations. These exams are not difficult, and the books available allow for effective self-study. Many students prefer to have Leigh guide them and help prepare them for the exams.

Leigh has an excellent tutoring record, preparing students for all nine subjects and maintaining a pass rate of approximately 98%.

Information and Tips for Passing the Exams

  • The pass mark is 75%.
  • A maximum of four attempts is allowed for each examination.
  • Once all theory examinations have been passed, the results remain valid for 24 months, during which time the flight training and final flight test must be completed.
  • Consider using Leigh for the first subject to assess your strengths and identify areas where additional support may be beneficial.
  • We recommend beginning with:
    • Air Law
    • Communications
    • Meteorology
    • Navigation
  • All nine examinations must be passed within 18 months.
  • Air Law should be studied and passed first, as it is required before flying solo.
  • Ground examinations are taken in our office through the CAA Online Portal.
  • Only take an examination when you are fully prepared. We want you to pass on your first attempt whenever possible.
